VUDA Park

VUDA Park, also called Taraka Rama Park was named after former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Sri N T Rama Rao. The Park is develped by Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) near the Rama Krishna Beach in Visakhapatnam. The Park is one of the best places in the city to enjoy with family in weekends. With a green playfield, artificial caves, beautiful long lawns, flower gardens, and a children's park, boating and swimming facilities makes this park a good place to spend time. Children can spend their time in a 3000 plastic ball coverage.

The Roller Skating Rink is one of the highlighted feature of the Park. The Park is equipted with International class Skating rings which is one of its kind in the country. In fact, this Skating Ring is one of the venues for the 32nd National Games held in the city. Expert faculties in Sports will be available from 9 a.m. to 8.p.m to train the tricks in Skating.

The Vaisakhi Open Air Auditorium is the place where musical concerts are held. Musical classes in Classical Telugu are often organized here by Vaisakha Kala Vedika Trust.

The Musical Fountain which zooms up colorful water to the tune of a cool background music is another attraction. Played daily at 6:30 PM, the musical fountain has an entrance ticket of a mere Rs. 5/- with which you can stay for unlimited time.

Bheemunipatnam Beach

Bheemunipatnam Beach is a peaceful and serene beach, situated along the coastline of Andhra Pradesh. Amidst the blue waters and tall coconut trees, this beach appears to be the perfect site for honeymooners. The sparkling sands that get soaked by the warm waves revive the childhood days, when kids make sand houses. The breathtaking beauty of Bhimunipatnam Beach cannot be bounded in mere words.

Located at Bhimli (Bheemunipatnam), which comes under Visakhapatnam district, this beautiful beach attracts tourists from all parts of India. It also offers an ideal site to take sun-bath, while getting salubrious tan. According to the folklores, the place derived its name from Bhima (one of the Pandavas), who killed Bakasura here. He commemorated his victory by installing an idol of Goddess Lakshmi, on top of a hill.

Another point about this beach is that it is regarded as one amongst the safest beaches for swimming in Andhra Pradesh. A little distance from the beach, you can trace the remnants of a fort, which proves the existence of Dutch settlement in the region. Hollanders Green, an ancient cemetery that dates back to the 17th century, is other attraction to be seen here. To be precise, Bhimunipatnam Beach is a lovely place that would spellbind you with its charisma.

Indira Gandhi Zoological Park


Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is one amongst the largest zoos of India, sited in the natural surroundings of a reserve forest. Sprawled in an area of 625 acres, the park was named after Indira Gandhi - the former Prime Minister of India. It was opened to the public in the year 1977. Located amidst Kambalakonda Reserve Forest in Visakhapatnam, the zoological park is surrounded by the Eastern Ghats on three sides and the Bay of Bengal on the fourth.

The Park houses almost eighty species, numbering to eight hundred animals, in its expanse. Infact, it has special sections for primates, carnivores, lesser carnivores, small mammals, ungulates, reptiles and birds in their natural replicated enclosures. Amongst the primates, the extra attention is gained by Rhesus monkey, Bonnet monkey, Mandrills, Olive and Sacred baboons, whereas Panthers, Tigers, Lions, Pumas, Jaguars, Wolves, Jackals, Hyena, Ratel, etc are the major ones in Carnivores.

The section of Reptiles has Pythons, Tortoise, Terrapins, Monitor lizards, Snakes and Water Monitor Lizards. In the range of Herbivores, the park embraces Elephant, Bison, Sambar, Spotted deer and Thamin deer. Regarding Avifauna, there are Grey/ Rosy pelicans, Pied hornbills, Painted storks, Peacocks, Ducks, Love birds, Cockatiels, Macaws and various other ground birds. You can also walk beside the aviaries, which comprise a diverse collection of birds from the Eastern Ghats.

The animals like Himalayan Black Bear and Sloth Bear are kept in separate huge enclosures. Apart from other animals and birds, the special attraction at the park is made by the Hippopotamus and the Crocodiles, which can be seen basking in the sun. Indira Gandhi Zoological Park

Indira Gandhi Zoological Park:
Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is located in the Kambalakonda Reserve Forest in Andhra Pradesh. Named after the former Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, the park was inaugurated on 19th May 1977. It is spread over an area of six hundred and twenty five acres and is located amidst the beautiful Eastern Ghats of India. It is surrounded by the Eastern Ghats on three sides and the Bay of Bengal on the fourth side.

The Park has different departments for primates, carnivores, lesser carnivores, small mammals, reptiles, ungulates and birds. It is nearly four kilometers from the Visakhaptnam railway station on N H 5 near Mathurawada.

There are nearly eighty species which numbers up to eight hundred in total. Primates include Common langur, rhesus monkey, bonnet monkey and fauna like mandrills, olive and sacred baboons. Carnivores include Panthers, tigers, lions, pumas, jaguars, wolves, jackals, hyena, ratel etc. Reptiles found here are Pythons, Tortoise, terrapins, and Monitor lizards. Herbivores found here are Elephant, Bison, Sambar, Spotted deer, and Thamin deer. Different species of birds are also found here which includes Grey/ Rosy pelicans, Pied hornbills, painted storks, peacocks, ducks, love birds, cockateels, macaws and other ground birds

Simhachalam Temple: Simhachalam temple is well connected from Vizag centers and there is a local station stop for trains. Long distance express trains usually do not stop here. From Vizag Railway station it is 45 minutes drive by road and 30 minutes from airport. Frequent buses available locally for hill top. There is a Trekking route available for trekking lovers from Madhavadhara side, two hours climbing to temple premises with steep natural stone steps and a beautiful view of Vizag city and at the other side the temple view from hill top.

Simhachalam - the hill of the lion is located at a distance of 18 km from Visakhapatnam refers to the 11th century temple of Lord Narasimha - an incarnation of Vishnu. Millions of devotees from round the world visit this temple every year. The presiding deity here is Varaha Lakshminarasimha, combining the iconographic features of Varaha and Narasimha. The image resembles a Shivalingam covered with sandal paste. It is only once a year, during the Chandana Visarjana that the sandal paste is removed, and the image is seen by pilgrims. The artwork here has elements of similarity with that of Konark. Elephants, flowers and plants are portrayed in plenty. The outer walls of the sanctum depict images of a royal personality (said to be King Narasimha) in various postures. The Kalyana Mandapa within the temple has 16 pillars with bas relief depicting the incarnations of Vishnu.

There is a rest house available for staying and performing puja, mirages , functions etc. For booking one can telephone to 2715276. Narasimaha Lodge and one Kalyana Mandap are available at the complex. Catering facility is also available. This is one of the famous temple in Andhra Pradesh. After a visit to the temple one can buy many Puja photos, items and devotional songs from the local market.

1.Kailasa Giri
An attractive and local favourite hill station, Kailasa Giri offers a spectacular view of the sea. It has serene and beautiful Rushikonda beach and RK beach on the left and hillock on the right. As the name suggests, the hill is Kailasa, the abode of Lord Shiva and Parvathi, massive sculpture of Shiva and Parvathi is seen here.

It is evidenced by many visitors to the hillock, with ropeway facility and Children’s playing field that they had fallen in love with this mount and surroundings due its picturesque and serene atmosphere. Imposing view of the city with illuminations in the evening can be enjoyed from the ropeway.

Paragliding can also be enjoyed here.

2.RUSHI KONDA
The lovely Rushikonda beach in Vishakhpatnam with golden sands and vast stretch of water is the best beach in Vizag. Rushikonda Beach, an ideal location to engage in water sports, is spectacular with its golden sand and the tidy waves of Bay of Bengal. It attracts a huge crowd of tourists day by day and many of them enjoy swimming, water skiing and wind surfing.

Andhra Pradesh Tourism has built up beach cottages with restaurant and bar facilities. The tourist complex here is well maintained with a lodge, individual cottages, a restaurant and other amenities.

Location And History of Vizag
